Tibor Vellai was born on May 13, 1967 in Budapest. He received his degree in biology from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), where he later received Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees. He is currently a professor and head of the Department of Genetics at ELTE. His research interests include the elucidation of aging mechanisms, with a special focus on autophagy and the role of TOR kinase. During his career, he has published more than 97 international publications and led several significant research projects. During his teaching activities, he supervised more than 100 students at BSc/MSc level and helped them obtain 16 PhD degrees. His role in scientific and public life is also significant, having held several leading positions in various professional bodies. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Academic Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
